Irma Jean Weinberg, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:45 A.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Irma Jean was a homemaker.  She had taught English at Du Quoin Township High School in 1941.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin.  She was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and Methodist Women.  She had been on numerous church boards and had directed the church choir for many years.  She was a member of Domestic Science Club and a Charter Member of Service League.  She was the first female to be elected to the School Board.  She helped organize the Meals On Wheels Program in Du Quoin.  At Du Quoin Township High School she was on the National Debate Team and graduated with honors from Northwestern University in Evanston.  She was a member of Phi Beta Phi Sorority at Northwestern University, where she was House President.  She was a lifelong Republican.
She was born January 9, 1919 at Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Thomas B. and Esther (Allais) Kelly.
She married Dr. Julius J. Weinberg on June 12, 1942 at Du Quoin, IL and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1982.
She is survived by three children - Dr. Thomas J. Weinberg and wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon, Dr. Richard L. Weinberg and wife Jan of Du Quoin, and Nancy L. Reay and husband Chuck of Virginia City, Nevada, ten grandchildren - Kelly DeBeer, Richard Wodehouse, Paul Wiggins, Colby Wiggins, Jennifer Weinberg, Nicholas Weinberg, Kane Weinberg, Jake Weinberg, Matthew Weinberg and Charles Weinberg, and one great grandchild - Hayden DeBeer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson - Jamie Wodehouse.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating.
Friends may call from 11 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
